Colonel (Retired) Scott Halstead joined the Association of the United States Army in October 2021.  He serves as the Director of AUSA’s Center for Leadership.

Scott graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1991 and served 30 years in uniform. He had the opportunity and privilege to lead Infantry formations in the 82nd Airborne Division (twice), the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, the 3rd Infantry Division, the 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard), the 25th Infantry Division, the Airborne and Ranger Training Brigade (twice), and the 2nd Battalion, 11th Infantry (Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course).

His deployments include:  Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom - Philippines, Operation Enduring Freedom - Afghanistan, and Operation Resolute Support – Afghanistan. 

Scott served as an Assignment Officer at Infantry Branch, Human Resources Command from 1998-2000 and again from 2006-2008.

He also served as the Director of the Simon Center for the Professional Military Ethic (SCPME) at West Point from 2014-2019. His team was responsible for stewardship of the Cadet Honor Code and System, the study of Officership, and Cadet character education / rehabilitation.  

Scott is a Distinguished Member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 11th Infantry Regiment. He is also a 2014 Distinguished Graduate from the United States Army War College.

Scott and his wife, Missy, have been happily married for 28 years. They have two adult daughters.

In 2021, Scott hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine (2,193 miles) with another Army veteran. In 2023, Scott hiked the Colorado Trail (486 miles) with his sister.
